Here’s my guide on how to plan a trip to Campobello with everything you need for a relaxing trip – in a treehouse! We stayed here for our family holiday over Christmas break and it was so heavenly that I had to share. It’s a great place to get away from it all and relax in nature or use it as a convenient base for your outdoor adventures.

Where to stay
As the title of the post suggests, I recommend staying in a tiny treehouse!
I found it randomly while searching on Booking.com and am so grateful I chose it because it was the perfect base for a cozy, quiet getaway.
Even though it felt away from everything, it was still easy to get around to local grocery stores, and outdoor adventures. And even though it’s a small town, there was a lot to see and do.
The best thing about staying here was the relaxation though. There’s just something about being surrounded by trees, sitting by the fire with a homemade dinner, or chilling out on the deck with a drink that puts you in the zen zone.
If you’re looking for a place to slow down and relax in nature, then I’m happy to recommend this.
Another thing that was unexpected that I really loved was the stack of books and snuggly blankets in the lounge room. It added an extra cozy element to the stay and added to the ambiance of ‘this is where you go to slow down and relax.’

Things to do nearby
Like I said, it’s the perfect place to relax in nature and slow down from the hectic pace of life. If you wanted to spend most of the time cozying up in the treehouse, it’d be easy to do just that.
However, there’s also a lot to do in the area and it’s a great base for day trips to places like Asheville and The Great Smoky Mountains.
There’s so much to do that it’d be too long to list everything, but here are a few ideas to get you started. I visited at Christmas so some things were closed when I went, but here’s my full list of things I had planned.
Pearson’s Falls
30 minute drive.
This was closed over Christmas when I visited, so I didn’t get to do this hike but it looks like a cool one and is close to the treehouse.
From what I could tell when I researched there’s a small entrance fee, it’s an easy, popular hike, and the falls look really pretty.

Little Bradley Falls
30 minute drive
Fortunately, I got to hike Little Bradley Falls and it was my favorite waterfall hike of the trip.
The hike itself had a cool ‘in the wild’ feeling, and by that I mean it was following a trail in the woods instead of a paved road. The trail had plenty of ups and downs to keep it interesting and even a couple of stream crossings.
The waterfall is just gorgeous too!
Poinsett Bridge
25 minute drive
This will add something a little different to the hikes and waterfall adventures.
Here you can see the Poinsett Bridge which was made in 1820.
There’s a large parking area on the opposite side of the road. It’s easy to find the bridge directly off the road and a cool Gothic archway underneath it.
There’s no hike to get to it aside from a small walk down to the archway, so you don’t need a lot of time to see it. It’s well worth a visit while you’re exploring the area.
Waterfall hopping
Here are a couple of laid-back itineraries to get you started on some of the waterfalls nearby.
Itinerary 1
Looking Glass Falls
The waterfall is right off the side of the road so you won’t miss it. There’s a lookout area at the top and a staircase that leads you closer to the bottom of the falls.
Moore Cove Falls
To get to this one you hike an easy to follow trail that will lead you to the falls.
There’s a lookout area at the waterfall and small trail where you can stand at the bottom and even behind it.
Sliding Rock
If you like being in the water, you can slide down the rock into the pond at the bottom which looks like a lot of fun! Even if you’re not swimming, it’s a cool spot to see.
There’s a small entrance fee, though it was free when I visited in December because it wasn’t being staffed at the time.
Fryingpan Mountain Lookout
Finish the day with some mountain views at the Fryingpan Mountain Lookout.
Itinerary 2
Surprise Swinging Bridge
If you like swinging bridges this is a cool one that’s worth seeing.
It’s super easy to spot off the side of the road and there’s a small area where you can park by the start.
There’s not much there – it’s just a fun, quick stop to walk across it and take a couple of pics so it won’t take long but it’s pretty cool.
Bridal Veil Falls
Another really easy waterfall to visit that’s directly off the side of the road so you won’t miss it.
Dry Falls
A big waterfall with pretty views. This one has a short path down and you can even walk behind it which is cool.
Secret Falls
An off the beaten path waterfall with a hike.
Asheville
Asheville is another nice day trip from Campobello and only about an hour and a half away.
Where to eat
Since I stayed over Christmas when many places were closed, I had made most of my meals at the treehouse to save hassle. The kitchen is well stocked with the basic utensils and crockery for cooking.
For topping up groceries, I went to the Ingles grocery chain.
A couple of places I tried that were good were The Moose Cafe in Asheville and Treehouse Cafe and Studio in Travelers Rest.
The host of the treehouse is super knowledgeable about the area, so if you’re visiting and planning to eat out more, I’d recommend checking in with him for suggestions.
I hope this guide on how to plan a trip to Campobello in South Carolina can help you plan your own relaxing stay.
